Batman’s butler Alfred is remarkable not because of his dedication to his job, but his ability to anticipate Bruce Wayne’s every need. Users all want to be Bruce Wayne. Whether visiting a hospital website, retail application, or bill pay, users want Alfred by their side, anticipating their wants, needs, and preferences. Thus, for those of us working in web design, our ability to anticipate users' every need is becoming vital, and even expected – consider Amazon, where they speak of shipping customers items they have not yet purchased based on prior purchases! This talk explores the magic behind creating anticipatory design and content.  • We’ll look at the familiar (customer) side of anticipatory design. • Then we'll flip it on its head to look at the back end. • Next we'll break that down into best practices (i.e. How YOU can do this at home). • Finally we’ll walk through a case study of how a specific project moved from research, through design, and into implementation – and what the customers thought once they saw it.
